Be The Five

A simple framework for turning ideas into action.

Written by Richard Godfrey, Be The Five introduces the 5D Framework: a practical approach to moving from discussion to delivery with confidence.

Early in my career I became fascinated by a simple question:

Why do some organisations consistently deliver while others struggle to turn good ideas into action?

After working across digital transformation, technology and leadership, I noticed the same patterns appearing again and again.

The most successful teams followed a similar journey. They discussed challenges, discovered opportunities, made decisions, designed solutions and delivered outcomes.

I wrote Be The Five to capture those lessons in a simple framework that anyone could understand and apply.

The 5D Framework

Discuss: Create shared understanding.

Discover: Gather information and explore options.

Decide: Make informed decisions.

Design: Turn decisions into practical plans.

Deliver: Execute, learn and improve.

Whether you're launching a digital project, building a business strategy or leading organisational change, the same journey appears time and time again.

More Than a Digital Framework

Although the book was originally written around digital transformation, I've since seen the framework applied to leadership, business growth, software development, sport and personal development.

The technology has changed dramatically since the book was published, but the need for structured thinking has only become more important.

Today, the principles behind Be The Five continue to influence my consulting work, leadership programmes and the development of Syncity AI.

About the Author

Richard Godfrey is the founder of Syncity and Syncity AI, a leadership advisor, speaker and technology entrepreneur with more than 20 years' experience helping organisations navigate change and deliver successful outcomes.

Throughout his career, Richard has worked across both the public and private sectors, leading digital transformation programmes, developing strategies and helping organisations turn ambitious ideas into practical results. Along the way, he became increasingly interested in a simple question: why do some teams consistently deliver while others struggle to move from discussion to action?

That question led to the creation of the 5D Framework; Discuss, Discover, Decide, Design and Deliver, the foundations of Be The Five. The framework was developed from real-world experience and designed to give leaders, teams and organisations a simple structure for making better decisions and delivering with confidence.

Since publishing Be The Five, Richard has continued to evolve these ideas through his consulting work, speaking engagements and software products, including Hashiru and Syncity AI. While technology has changed dramatically, the core belief behind the book remains the same: better decisions create better outcomes.

Today, Richard helps leaders build the clarity, structure and confidence needed to succeed in an increasingly complex and AI-driven world.
